Chesaning Trinity UMC to host a Godly Play training retreat on June 27, 28, and 29th.

Godly Play is a unique approach to children’s spiritual formation based on calm, wonder and
connection to God. The Godly Play curriculum uses storytelling to make the Bible accessible to
children. Stories of our faith include core Bible stories, parables, liturgical action stories and the
use of contemplative silence shared with children by an adult storyteller who handles and moves
a variety of props and carved materials to illustrate the story directly in front of the children. The
story comes to life in front of their very eyes. The children are then led to wonder about the story
and respond to the story through an art medium of their own choosing.

During the 3-day retreat-style Godly Play training, participants will be immersed in the Godly
Play method, its fundamental practices, and taught ways to support the circle of children. They
will be prepared to tell the stories, guided as to how to use the props and materials, shown how to
set up a Godly Play classroom/worship space, and given insight into general principles regarding
children’s spirituality, its importance, and how to nurture it.
